Appel or Tenko: When we came under direct Japanese military supervision twice daily headcounts were conducted. This became a source of immense frustration and always was accompanied by confusion.

Wow…..I just came upon this outstanding information…..my grandparents, Johan Frederik Mounier and Lydia Maasen Mounier were both interred in Batavia….I found my grandmother’s name in the camp called TJideng….I cried and began shaking when I came upon it. My grandfather, I still have not found the camp he was in, but will continue to look, was a writer for De Orient magazine in Batavia prior to the war, I have a copy of one of the issues, and he was able to write nine (9) notebooks in Dutch while interred, I am in the process of having those translated, and know there will be wonderful information in those books. I am not only so proud of my grandparents, who were in their mid 50′s during those war years, but absolutely amazed at their resolve and strenths. If anyone knows of my grandparents, I would love to hear from you via email….I have volumes of wonderful information about their lives, both before and after WWII, and as I said, I am just beginning my search. Thanks very much, Joan Nunan Schmid, Montrose Colorado

Thanks for the photos of Trivelli street which brought back memories. I was born in Bandoeng on the Braga weg in october 1939 and the first camp was in Tjihapit before going to Solo- Boemikamp and Moentilan
At last I am trying to connect to my past. Maybe someone knows something of my mother. Her name was Jacoba Harm and my father’s name was Herman.(On 15 nov 1944, 700 women and children went from Tjihapit to Solo Boemikamp. In May 1945 they moved to Moentilan, and in August 1945 to Ambarawa, ed)
